Corporate And Social Responsibility In recent years, Corporate and Social Responsibility has become an ever increasing concern and source of community debate. It is now socially accepted that corporations have some ongoing responsibility, though sometimes ignored, to set a good example, make decisions based on social good and on ensuring positive environmental practices. The two articles reviewed both focus on this corporate responsibility but they have very different approaches and draw very different conclusions. John Darleys article How Organisations Socialize Individuals into Evildoing summarises some of the factors and forces involved in creating socially negative corporate scenarios and then goes on to detail how†¦show more content†¦Consequently, Darley paints a bleak picture for future improvements in the short term for Corporate and Social Responsibility and continues by examining some of the factors that influence individuals to adopt these corporate motivations to the detriment of their own social responsibilities. Factors such as diffusion and fragmentation of information and responsibility, threats and clever framing and a culture of persuasion, he suggested, could corrupt individuals over time, indicating that the potential for harm is not purely limited to corporations. He further implies that individuals have the ability to s pread this type of corruption from one corporation to another, much like the way a virus spreads. Is this realism or cynicism? I believe that the same could be said of any human interaction, as any individual has the potential to carry out social harm or illegal practices or to influence others. This does not mean that most or even many of us necessarily do so, and could also be true of corporations. Therefore examining this potential for corporations is not an effective way to address a resolution. On the 2nd of November, year 2006, an almost-tragic event happened in the roads of Kalipayan, here in Tacloban City. I was in the 6th grade at the time and it was All Souls’ Day. My relatives and I went to the cemetery to visit the grave of my late grandfather, who passed away in June of the same year. After offering prayers for the eternal repose of my grandfather, as well as exchanging stories with my cousins and aunts, my mom decided it was time to go home. It was already getting late, the time indicating it was almost midnight. We waited for several minutes for a jeepney to come and when we were able to get one†¦ The vehicle was moving at moderate speed and everything was going well. My mom was busy conversing with my aunt about important matters when the jeepney came to a halt, letting a passenger off near the bend on the road. All of a sudden; a man, out of nowhere, snatched my mom’s bag and immediately jumped off the vehicle. It seemed like time was stopped and everyone was left in a trance. Not wasting any more precious time, I jumped off the vehicle and chased the snatcher – who was carrying a small knife – until I came to a dead end. I got a little frightened for the path where the snatcher ran off to was narrow and looked like a ledge and one small step would have led me drenched in the water. I ran back to the main road and finding relief in the presence of light posts, I jogged to a walk and tried to catch my breath. Going back to the jeepney where my mom, sister and aunt were waiting – all the while anxious about my sudden departure – I found men and bystanders gathering around my mom’s bag. Turns out, the snatcher dropped the bag and only stole my mom’s mobile phone and didn’t touch the other paraphernalia in the bag. Thankfully, my mom was pretty clever in keeping our passports and other essential things in a plain-looking plastic bag. The snatcher probably thought it was just trash and decided to discard it. We went back to the jeepney and arrived safely in our house. My sister was in a state of shock while my mom was truly grateful for the essentials that were left unharmed. I was mainly disappointed that I wasn’t able to catch the criminal but nevertheless thankful that I was given enough courage by God to chase the snatcher and got out of that situation without facing any threat or danger. West Side Story Essays (469 words) - Chair, Furniture,

West Side Story During my vacation in North Woodstock, New Hampshire, my two friends and I came across The Papermill Theater. An old run down mill, turned into a theater, with lots of history. We all decided to attend the play , West Side Story, hoping it would be a good experience. As we entered the theater my eyes swayed from left to right taking in all the history of the building. I saw old ceilings and walls with different mill machines with in them. I came across the old set up of the building consisting of a rundown stage with many scene props and dusty old chairs. These chairs really stood out, they were all differently designed and all different types. Some were folding chairs while others were cushion movie like chairs. As the three of us discovered our seats we noticed how popular the show really is, as a matter of fact all 100 seats ended up being filled. After everyone was seated I took out my program booklets and began to read about the backgrounds of the actors and actresses. I discovered that they were all professional actors and actresses and had produced three well-liked plays already this summer. These plays were "Anything Goes", "She Loves Me", and of course "West Side Story". As I continued to read I also cited the pictures and the descriptions of every actor. I became very anxious to see what was to come of this production. The lights finally went out and I was instantly enthralled with the cast and plot. The play focused around the two gangs, the Jets and the Sharks(the Puerto Ricans). They continued on to identify the hostility of these two gangs through song dance and of course acting. Every scene change was not a done with a curtain, but rather a spotlight. This technique I enjoyed and found very intriguing to watch. As the actors toured me through the play act by act I enjoyed it more and more. I even felt suspense while the fights went on and the couples fell in love. By the end of the play I was so caught up in the moment that I felt the tears of sadness as I wept for the awful death of Tony and how much sadness it brought to not only Maria, but also the other gangs too. In fact both gangs felt so much sadness that they all assisted the carrying off of Tony to his grave. At that moment I knew Tony's death resulted in peace between both gangs. The play was a tragedy, but did have a rather positive ending in one way. This production was such a wonderful experience for me that I would totally consider going back to see another one and more. I give much credit to every actor for the absolutely wonderful job they did in the play. They made it so real for the audience. I praise the Mainstage Acting Company on what a terrific performance they held.
